Ángel Olaran calls for removal of “NEVER AGAIN” from UN archives
“On February 16, 2021, from one of the UN offices came a letter, expressing the horror that the rape of so many women was taking place in Tigray. They stated that it was a horror, a pain, terrors impossible to overcome….”. “…Nor has any criticism been heard from men, condemning these men-soldiers”. Therefore, Angel Olaran calls for removal of “NEVER AGAIN” from UN archives, “If the UN, within its entire mechanism, with the Charter of Human Rights in hand, can justify crimes of this magnitude, it is time for a commission of wise people of the world, civilians, non-partisan, without any religious affiliation, to make its opinion heard. Let them take to the streets the “NEVER AGAIN” of the UN archives, possibly full of dust”.

“Silence is Consent”
On February 16, 2021, a letter was sent from one of the UN offices, expressing the horror that the rape of so many women were taking place in Tigray. They stated that it was a horror, a pain, terrors impossible to overcome. The document, once it had fulfilled its mission of having been proclaimed, must have been lost in one of the many wastebaskets of the UN, because that horror, that terror, have been overcome by far. I do not know if there is any record of any group of feminist women or not, believers or not, of having stated a strong line of repulse against so much rape to which hundreds, if not thousands, of women have been subjected: from girls to grandmothers. Rape in some cases followed by the murder of the victim. Nor has any criticism been heard from men, condemning these male soldiers. I think it would be difficult for a man to understand that 20 soldiers, one after the other, rape a woman’s body trembling with fear and terror, shattered, humiliated and in pain, having achieved an erection, including an orgasm. I suppose that, if any of them had not been satisfied with that body, before the laughter of his colleagues, he would have killed her for uselessness. It is to be hoped that the battle for gender equality will demand a better understanding of the cruelty to which a man can commit on such occasions and will demand a humane, healthy sexual education for boys from an early age.
Criticisms have been heard from Christian churches and others, but never, not even within Ethiopia, followed by an official proposal to follow up on such horror. But never, not even within Ethiopia, followed by an official proposal to follow up on such horror. Is national sovereignty above the sovereignty of Justice?
If the UN, within its entire mechanism, with the Charter of Human Rights in hand, can justify crimes of this magnitude, it is high time that a commission of wise people of the world, civilian, non-partisan, with no religious affiliation whatsoever, made its opinion heard. Let them take the “NEVER AGAIN” out of the UN archives, possibly full of dust.
Hug,
Angel
